Not to long ago theKMco launched KnicksNow.com.  The launch is the first real social effort by an NBA team.  From original content, including video, photos and post-game interviews, to social apps like Facebook connect and Twitter the site serves as a social hub for Knicks fans. (yes, after the San Antonio Spurs, I support the Knicks!)  

I had the pleasure in participating on one of OMMA's creative round tables on the site.

Is there anything you would add to knicksnow.com?
Peña-Bickley: 
Video content. The more video content the better. Those of us who are writers and designers love to believe that our content is being read, but you're going to find that more people watch. The Web has changed in such a way that it's starting to become a little bit more of a lean-back activity rather than a lean-in activity, and the ability not just to have a topic covered by video but to allow people to respond via video is something that could be really interesting.

Real-time activities will be incorporated into the site. Are basketball fans like you interested in connecting with each other on a site like KnicksNow while watching a game?

Peña-Bickley: I think it's fantastic because most people watch sports today with some kind of device either on their lap or in their hands. If I'm going to a game, or I happen to be engaging in anything basketball, the first thing I do is I check in via Foursquare and see who is around me.

ON: An All-American Heros

When I logged into to my Facebook account today, I stumbled upon the
featured video in my dashboard.  Upon click I fell for it! I love this campaign... Simply Big.

Kid Rock teamed up with Dale Earnhardt Jr. for the a new National Guard promotion "Warrior".
Kid Rock wrote the new song, 'Warrior', that is the featured song in the campaign.

They used epic director James Mangold to shoot the videos. (Mangold has done Walk The Line and 3:10 To Yuma)  Make sure to go to the site and download the song!

ON: Contest Invites Women to Submit 30-second Spots for New Cream Oil Body Wash

Unilever's Dove is joining the growing ranks of brands enlisting
consumers to do the work their ad agencies once did. It's asking "real
women" to create TV ads to run during the Academy Awards on ABC Feb.

In an e-mail today to members of its online relationship-marketing
program, Dove began seeking entries for a 30-second ad to promote a new
product, Dove Cream Oil Body Wash.

The e-mail directs people to DoveCreamOil.com, a site hosted on Time
Warner's AOL, which provides online tools, artwork, photos and music
for creating ads, and also allows consumers to upload their own files.
"You don't need any special skills or experience," the e-mail says. 
Actress Sara Ramirez is also touting the program on tonight's "Access Hollywood."

Three finalists will win trips to a private Academy Awards viewing
party in Los Angeles, and the winning spot will run during the Academy
Awards broadcast. The contest is open only to women and, of course,
only to amateurs.

WPP Group's Ogilvy & Mather, Chicago, handles creative for the
brand, and MindShare, New York, handles media. Independent Edelman
Worldwide, New York, handles public relations.

ON: Living The Dream & Branded Social Networks

Although advertisers are keen to monetize the behemoth that is the
social networking phenomenon, previous attempts have varied from the
successful (Nike’s Joga Bonito, for example) to the misguided (Walmart’s short lived ‘The Hub’. Now, US car manufacturer Lincoln are uniting people online through a shared dream – literally. www.mydream.tv
is a beautifully laid out site through which users can sign up, submit
their dreams and ambitions, and connect with others harboring the same
desires in order to make dreams come true. Video footage showing
individuals explaining how they overcame difficulties to reach their
personal goals is also featured, alongside relevant Amazon links to help people get set up with the right equipment.

The site was conceived and constructed by New York-based renegades Kirt Gunn,
who supervised the true life footage. The site has three value
propositions, First, it’s there for information and
entertainment. We’ve included relevant web links next to each dream to
help people get started, and Amazon guides. Second, we’ve given users
the chance to connect with others, motivating them to not only
accomplish their goals but also return to the site to encourage others.
And third, shortly we’ll be launching the user-generated element in
which users will be able to add their own videos of success.

So
far, featured dreams include building a dream house, making an
independent film and the slightly more dramatic ‘become a superhero’.
Oh, and the site also plays host to Lincoln advertising and a
competition to win one of the cars.

Creating a social network is a tricky business, as both content and
connections must be continually inspiring. With MyDream.tv we suspect
Lincoln may have cracked it – what could be more inspiring than a
dream?

Other automotive news – Toyota Scion has formed an online network, Scion Broadband,
with five channels of content including short films, music videos and a
Japanese anime cartoon series. There’ll also be exclusive footage of
new Scion commercials, and the music channel will feature videos and
interviews with up-and-coming artists. ‘Our customer is very plugged
into the arts, but they are also plugged in online,’ said Adrian Si,
Scion’s interactive manager. ‘Most of them are finding links to
entertainment on the Internet, and a growing amount are just staying
online to be entertained. We feel that we can provide our audience with
relevant content’. www.scion.com/broadband

AND – the manufacturer has cemented its presence in Second Life with a brand new showroom, Scion City.
The launch of the model in Second Life was so well attended that Scion
will host six more events, one every two weeks, to let players' avatars

ON: Target’s Great Digital Promo

Thanksgiving, turkey, gravy, stuffing cranberries (canned and jelled) got me cruising the net for holiday gifts.  Hence my quick visit to Target.

Go Target go!

From in page flash video to mac and pc widgets to RSS feeds and embed the video functions, the Target team and David Blaine make a phenomenal promotion come to life on the web.

This is one of the best online retail promotions I have seen in a long while.
