A large part of experience design is designing for the we know the user will do and then taking it a step further in designing for what we know they can do.  Error pages are often neglected by designers because they are rarely seen, or at least that’s the plan. But we all know things happen. A visitor may incorrectly enter a url, or try to find something on your site that just isn’t there. These are times when the 404 page will receive a few visits, but visiting an error page isn’t necessarily part of a pleasant user experience.  In this post I have rounded up a few of my favorites.

ON: My new platform & look

Picture_1
It was time for an update.  I created my new platform "simply fun".
The platform stems from a feeling of accomplishment in my career combined with the comedic value I offer my friends, colleagues and family.

At this point in my career, if it is not fun - it is really not worth doing.  It was time to break from the convention of neutral colors while offering a clean way to display my work, presentations, and passion projects.
Thus the new improved http://joannapenabickley.net

In the greenroom hanging with the guys talking shop, Greg snapped this photo of me.  (babe you need a flash - i was standing right under that spotlight.)

WidgetCon 07 gave me a few things to think about...  my key insight was recognizing that  "The Internet has not created chaos in marketing and advertising - it has just revealed it."

The evolution has begun,  as a matter of fact it continues to evolve at about 100 miles an hour.

The widget is facilitating the evolution through giving us a mechanism for portable content, commerce, community and transactions in consumers lives.

Special thanks to Freewebs... I look forward to seeing you guys at digital days @ TracyLocke.

ON: Pownce

Picture_5
Thanks to my net crew I have discovered Pownce.  Pownce is a way to send anything you want to your friends.  You
can send just about anything: music, photos, messages, links, events,
and more.

Ahh the smell of another boom...

Leah Culver, Daniel Burka, Kevin Rose, and Shawn Allen  were tired of trying to send stuff between cubes so they found a simple answer... Pownce.

Together, they formed a company with a big ass name, Megatechtronium, and started building this software.  Leah devotes all of her days (and a lot of her nights) coding and
developing the web system, Daniel creates the user interface for the
website and desktop app, Kevin works with the team brainstorming
features and advising the direction of the site, and Shawn develops the
desktop app and the API.

Picture_4

What is really cool about this is that it is a mashup of simplified technologies.  The Pownce Beta is via invite only.  I have a few left.  The part I love best is the client-side / desktop application.
